The Return of Planet Punk

It’s official. The 70’s are back.

Red carpet glamour took a rebellious turn this May as fashion’s A-listers showed up at the MET gala to celebrate the return of 70’s punk. And when Cara Delevingne (dubbed the new Kate Moss) strutted her stuff in a gold studded gown and Sienna Miller worked the room in an embellished leather jacket at the ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ event, we knew we’d be hooked on the trend for seasons to come.

Still, the trend tends to lean towards the tricky and can get lost in translation, which is why we present a cheat sheet on how a Stylista can steal the look for her own wardrobe:

Indie Punk

Introduce your studs to your feminine florals for a match made in fashion heaven. As for the slouchy denim work shirt sitting in the back of your closet? It makes for the perfect candidate for a ménage a trois. A studded, statement collar is also a great alternative if you’re thinking of straying from the plain Jane game.

Twilight Edge

Channel the punk trend after dark by investing in pieces with serious hardware. Think distressed leather bomber jackets, embellished shoulders, zipper necklines and safety pin lapels. Then slip on a pair of stratospheric spiked pumps to embrace the trend in it’s entirety.

Detailed Hardware

Accessory junkies, rejoice! With the devil living perennially in the details, we can’t think of a reason not to go out and splurge on punk-themed accessories to take a casual outfit from mild to wild. Just make sure to pick basic pieces like trusty totes and dependable sling bags to always have a touch of punk on your person. As for jewellery, layered chains, spiky cuffs and leather chokers are the name of the game.
