It’s officially Halloween Week, and we here at Stylista are always up for some fun! And so in the spirit (see what we did there?) of all things spooky, here’s our roundup of the spookiest music videos and songs for your big Halloween party!
1. Michael Jackson – Thriller
The mother of all Halloween videos, this cult classic has left such a legacy that no song or music video to date has been more closely associated with this spookiest of holidays. There’s comedy, incredulity, and, of course, a good scare in there. Plus, that Thriller dance takes some serious skill (admit it, you’ve tried to imitate it at least once)!
2. Ray Parker Jr. – Ghostbusters
This theme song from the movie Ghostbusters was such a hit when released in 1984 that it claimed Billboard’s #1 spot for three weeks and sparked the catchphrase, “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!” Your Halloween play list wouldn’t be half as much fun without this epic tune.
3. Marilyn Manson – This Is Halloween
Tim Burton’s animated classic The Nightmare Before Christmas was re-cut with Marilyn Manson’s version of This Is Halloween for the re-release of the film in 3D with a special edition soundtrack. The reimagining of the spindly, soft-spoken Disney character Jack Skellington as the wild child of 1990s rock and Manson’s vocals add an extra demonic twist to the original. How fun!
4. Backstreet Boys – (Everybody) Backstreet’s Back
This one’s for all your boy band-loving girls. So while the only thing spooky about this track is the accompanying music video, truth be told it’s easily one of the best Halloween-themed clips of all time.
5. Rihanna – Disturbia
The summer of 2008 saw Rihanna begin to explore her more edgy setups that we have since come to know and love. Disturbia fuses haunting screeches and dark growling bass with jagged choreography and psychedelic visuals.
