Awards season is well and truly upon us, and the international red carpets are ablaze with some serious style stars this year! The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in Los Angeles on Saturday night, with American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and Breaking Bad all winning big. But that’s not why we were watching the awards show, now is it? We spotted some of our favourite actresses in beautiful couture pieces on the red carpet, and just had to bring you our low-down of the trends on some of the best dressed stylistas. Read on!
1. Minimal, fitted gowns
A column gown makes for a bold fashion statement, and Jennifer Lawrence shone in a strapless Dior number offset by delicate drop earrings. Lupita Nyong’o, who has taken Hollywood by storm in her breakout film 12 Years A Slave, is fast turning into our favourite stylista to watch when it comes to sartorial choices! This custom Gucci gown is a gorgeous shade of blue accents her skin tone beautifully, making her one of the most well-turned out women that night! Meanwhile, Downtown Abbey star Michelle Dockery went classic in a sleek black-and-white tuxedo inspired J.Mendel gown with a plunging neckline, a bold red lip and minimal LoveGold jewellery.
2. Shimmer and spice
Cate Blanchett rarely makes a fashion faux pas, and on Saturday night the 44-year-old Australian actress got it right once again. The ever-so-elegant award winner looked positively peachy in a saree-inspired Givenchy gown, adding an element of bling with Chopard jewellery. Scandal star Kerry Washington stunned in an unexpected bubblegum pink crop top and flared skirt. The gorgeous actress is six months pregnant, but that didn’t stop her from baring her midriff in this chic Prada ensemble, and we have to say it’s a look we absolutely love! Isla Fisher worked the vintage Hollywood vibe in a cleavage baring bias cut gown that was nothing short of va-va-voom. The slinky silver Oscar De La Renta dress accessorised with dazzling diamond earrings and a statement cuff was old school glamour at its best.
3. Sultry blues
From midnight blue to a dazzling cobalt hue, blue gowns sure did steal the limelight at the SAG red carpet. Breaking Bad actress Anna Gunn wore a sparkling Monique Lhullier number with a flattering neckline, accessorised with drop earrings and a witty nod to her epic TV show in the form of her clutch. American Hustle star Amy Adams rocked the royal blue trend in an Antonio Berardi gown and Cartier baubles. She looked every bit the sexy siren thanks to the thigh-high slit and asymmetric neckline. Homeland actress Claire Danes looked lovely in a dark gauzy gown by Vionnet with delicate midnight blue sequins. Paired with unusually dark hair and dramatically smoky eye makeup, her look was sophisticated and sexy.
